AI-assisted brain monitoring · University of Colorado · 2010
Dr Rory Lewis and his PhD students collaborated with a team of neurosurgeons to develop AI enabled intracortical electrodes designed to monitor brain activity and predict seizures before onset. The system transmitted data via Bluetooth to the patient’s iPhone, which relayed it to the team’s server at the University of Colorado. By learning each patient’s distinctive neural patterns and evaluating its predictions against actual seizure events, including false positives, the AI continuously refined its predictive models for that individual. These photographs document the final porcine (pig) tests before human testing.
